Immunodermatology

The study of immunity in both health and disease is known as immunodermatology. A number of topics are given extra attention, including photo-immunology (effects of UV light on skin defence), inflammatory conditions like Hidradenitis suppurativa, allergic contact dermatitis, and atopic eczema, presumably autoimmune conditions like vitiligo and psoriasis, and finally the immunology of microbial skin conditions like retrovirus infections and leprosy. Chemokine receptor inhibitors and biologicals designed to neutralise TNF-alfa are new treatments being developed for the immunomodulation of prevalent immunological skin disorders.
